Warka Brewery

"The prosperity of Warka stemmed predominantly from beer..." thus wrote Jędrzej Święcicki, a 17th century geographer and local historian. It would be hard to disagree. Archaeological research confirms that beer was brewed in Warka as early as in the 9th century. The brewing traditions in Warka go back to the 15th century, when on 18 June 1487, Prince Bolesław the 5th bestowed upon Warka the privilege of the exclusive supplier of beer to the Court. The 16th century saw beer brewing flourish in the entire Warka district with as many as 30 breweries operating there.

There is no doubt that it was the beer from Warka that gave this town, established in the 14th century and located just 50 km south of Warsaw, its nation-wide fame. Today, the Warka Brewery is one of the most advanced facilities of this kind in Europe. The technologies applied there are pioneering solutions, e.g. the membrane filtration or the largest in Europe filtration tank.
